II. APPEARANCE

Height: 190cm (6'3)
Weight: 169lb (77kg)
Hair: Light brown.

General Appearance: Due to his lazy nature, Axel doesn't put much effort into his appearance, and as a result, looks quite shabby. His hair is wavy and unkempt, as a result of his laziness. He is quite good looking, though his drab personality seems to turn people off from him. He has piercing blue-gray eyes, which he considers to be his best feature. He stands at an intimidating 190cm (6'3), and weighs in at 169lb (77kg). Despite being quite tall, he slouches quite a bit, and is almost always seen lying down, napping, even if he's in a public place like a park.

His sense of fashion is anything but typical, however. His preferred choice of clothing is a white jacket, outlined in black. He wears a black sash across the waist that holds his two guns. He is very apathetic to most things, and wears an bored expression on his face, most of the time. He is rarely shown to be excited, and is quite stoic, rarely showing emotion. He wears boots that go up to his knees, and two gloves, that conceal his guild mark.

Extra: He wears an eyepatch over his left eye, as he believes that it helps his aim.

III. PERSONALITY

Personality: Boring, unmotivated and incredibly lazy - Axel Maher is not exactly the funnest person to be around. He hates pretty much anything that requires effort, and even uses gun magic, simply because he's too lazy to fight someone close up. Despite this, he is quite an efficient hand to hand fighter. He spends almost half of his day sleeping, and nobody seems to care enough to stop him from doing so. He rarely acknowledges other people, whether they're allies, opponents or clients, and will only do, if something really piques his interest. He cares little for his fellow guild members, though he will help them out, should the situation be life threatening. Having said that, he wouldn't be too affected if a fellow comrade of his lost their life, as long as he doesn't see their dead body. He isn't the biggest fan of small talk, though he'd rather have a light chat, than a pointless fight. He hates wasted effort, and gets frustrated if things don't turn out the way he expected them too. All in all, he is a person that wants things to be predictable, and is the polar opposite of spontaneous people.

He is quite an observant individual, paying close attention to detail. Despite his great analytical ability, he doesn't show off at all, and comes across as quite humble, when in fact, he just couldn't be bothered with being the center of attention. He prefers to fight in the background, doing minimal work, or better yet, he could stay on the sideline and not have to do anything at all. He is quite an unemotional person, rarely ever showing his true feelings. However, he is quite a loyal person, and will do anything for anyone who he owes something to. He cares little for his own life, so is willing to discard it. However, that doesn't mean that he wants to die, rather, he wouldn't mind dying for the right reason.

He comes across as a very sarcastic person, though that is mostly just him being incredibly blunt. Like mentioned before, he doesn't care much for pointless drabbles, and this reflects in his own speech. He gets straight to the point, and wishes that other people would do the same also. He hates mind games, and as a result, dislikes things like puzzles and riddles, even though (as a result of his great analytical skills) he is quite good at them. Unlike some other members of his guild, he isn't overly arrogant or violent, preferring to have a cup of tea with his opponent, rather than fight them. He is strangely attached to his guns, which are inanimate objects, to the point that he has given them both names (Lily and Sara).

Likes:

  • Sleeping - Like other lazy people, Axel enjoys sleeping. In fact, it's his favorite pastime. He gets irritated if someone interrupts his nap. He gets at least ten hours of sleep a day, and doesn't seem to function properly, unless he gets his ten hours.
  • Peace - Safe to say, Axel is not the biggest hit at parties. If he even decides to go to such an event, he'll probably slink into the background, sipping his drink quietly. He hates noise, and loves a peaceful atmosphere, where he can chill in peace.
  • Predictability - Axel really dislikes things that aren't predictable. He is quite a routine person, and hates it when things don't go the way they're suppose to. For example, if he takes a mission, and an unexpected obstacle stands in his way, he'll get incredibly annoyed, though he probably won't show it.
  • Country Music - Axel is a huge fan of country music. While he can sleep in even the most dangerous of situations, his preferred method is to fall asleep while listening to his favorite country song. He doesn't get offended when people berate his music sense, as even he doesn't know why he likes country. He just does.
  • His Guns - He has a good 'relationship' with his two guns, even to the point that he has given them both their own names - Lily and Sara. Despite both of them being completely identical, Axel can easily tell the both of them apart.
  • Lamia Scale - Even though he does not show it, Axel is incredibly fond of his guild, Lamia Scale, and would do anything to protect it and it's members. He cherishes his guildmates, even though he may not consider them his friend.

Dislikes:

  • Killing - Axel is incredibly against the notion of killing. Despite caring little for the lives  of others, he doesn't believe that he should kill people, just because he can. He'd rather give someone the opportunity to walk away, then kill them. He'll only take a life as a last resort.
  • Fighting - While Axel is not a pacifist, he hates conflict, and would rather just have a nap,  then battle. He isn't completely opposed to fighting, as he knows it is impossible to avoid in his line of work. Having said that, he's less likely to take a request that requires a fight. 
  • Loneliness - Even though Axel rarely communicates with other people, he doesn't consider himself to be 'alone'. Axel is quite a picky person when it comes to his companions, and as a result, he cherishes the friends that he does make a lot. 
  • Dark Guilds - As a former member of a dark guild, Axel can talk firsthand about their brutality. He doesn't believe that their way of doing things is right, and hates their cruel nature.
  • Unpredictability - He hates having to do things that he didn't expect to do. If he goes to a bar, he expects to have a drink, not to get into a scrap with the drunk sitting beside him.

Motivations:

  • Retirement - There is only one reason why Axel decides to do any work at all. He wants to make enough money, so that he can retire in peace, and spend the rest of his days, sleeping, chilling and listening to country music, without needing to care about his fiances.
  • Finding a Purpose in Life - While Axel is saving up for the day he can finally call it a day, and retire, he is still looking for his purpose in life. As someone who wanders a lot, he knows that there is something out there for him.

Fears:

  • Isolation - Although he may not show it, Axel is quite dependent on the people around him. He may not like or even acknowledge his fellow guild members, though it does give Axel a sense of ... security knowing that they're around. One of his biggest fears is that one day he will wake up, and everyone he knows is gone.
  • Corpses - One of the reasons why Axel is hesitant to kill is because he has a fear of corpses. He is more affected by the dead body of a human, than an animal, though any kind of corpse will have a profound mental effect on him.

Positive Traits:

  • Regeneration (+4): You heal very fast inside and outside of combat. Small cuts that go up to one inch deep are healed in the next post.
  • Alertness (+2): You have finely tuned senses.
  • Diligent (+2): Your meticulousness allows you to analyze minute details that others miss.
  • Agile (+3): You are particularly flexible and poised.
  • Enhanced Strength (+3): Your character is slightly stronger than other characters when it comes to physical strength.

Negative Traits:

  • Misfortunate (-1): Lucky breaks are something that happen to other people. Your luck isn't terrible; you wouldn't have survived as long as you have if it were. It just isn't very good. Look at it this way: if you need some blind luck to get you out of a sticky situation, expect to be sticking around for a while.
  • Envious (-1): Everyone else seems to have it better than you do. They have more money, better toys, and a prettier wife. You tend to get envious over the smallest things. You're often dislikes due to the constant mutterings and complaints you utter, along with the dirty stares you offer those you deem as better off than yourself.
  • Aloof (-1): Your manner is cold and unapproachable, distancing you from friends and strangers alike. Your preternatural intelligence lends itself to viewing others as slow-witted and a waste of your precious time. Your charisma is lowered.
  • Bad Reputation (-1) (Known as a Deadbeat) : You have a reputation that angers or frightens people. Examples include being unlucky, petty, or cruel. The rep may or may not be accurate, but in either case, word travels faster than you do.
  • Dark Secret (-1) (Former Dark Guild Member): You have some sort of secret that, if revealed, would make you an outcast amongst your society and companions. While this secret is on your mind at all times, it will come up in topics only once in a while, but when it does, watch out!
  • Inattentive (-1): Your mind has a habit of drifting off at inopportune moments. It flits from one thought to the next so fast that you have trouble getting it to concentrate on the here and now. As such, you are particularly unaware of your surroundings.
  • Indecisive (-1): You have been known to hesitate when faced with difficult choices or split-second decisions. If forced to choose between letting a villain escape and rescuing a loved one from being lowered into a snake pit, you're likely to agonize over the situation until something--perhaps a cry for help from your sweetheart--forces your hand.
  • Lazy (-1): You will never do any more work than is absolutely necessary. You will rely on your companions to do things such as build campfires, cook, and keep watch throughout the night. Generally, you will neglect details of preparedness in order to grab a few extra minutes of sleep. Failure indicates that you think the time would be better spent napping or laying under the shade.
  • Intolerance (-1) (Materialistic Women): You have an irrational dislike of a certain thing. It may be an animal, a class of person, a situation, or just about anything at all. Note that some dislikes may be too trivial or ridiculous to count--a dislike of Bavarian-crème-filled donuts or mechanical pencils, for example, has no real dramatic value and will not be allowed.
  • Merciful (-1): For a villain, you have a terrible weakness--you don't like to hurt people. Given the choice, you'd rather exile your deposed brother to another country than do him in. Whether this is because you want him to live knowing that you beat him, or whether you just have a small soft spot down in your heart somewhere, the result is the same: your enemies keep coming back again and again.
  • Righteous (-1): The end justifies the means. You are willing to perform morally repugnant actions in order to achieve noble goals. Unfortunately, this can alienate those people who might support your cause if you didn't use such heavy-handed methods.
  • Branded (-2) (Dark Guild Mark): You have fled for a crime committed and now have a prominent brand. You may have been a criminal, a slave, or some other such illicit individual. The brand is such that it cannot be easily covered, and a cursory search reveals it each time. Law enforcement agents of any lawful land will immediately take you into custody if they see the mark, for extradition or imprisonment. It is your choice as to whether or not you were falsely accused of the crime.
  • Star-crossed (-1): You keep falling in love with the wrong people. You're the common soldier who falls in love with the king's daughter at first sight, or the hero who falls for the villain's daughter without knowing who she is.

IV. MAGIC

Magic: Guns Magic 
Caster or Holder: Holder
Description: Guns Magic is a holder magic involving the shooting of Magic bullets, which produce various Magical effects. As the Magic's name implies, the user loads their guns and fire Magic bullets. The bullets can vary from normal bullets to any other type of bullets, such as wind bullets, mud bullets, sunlight bullets, Magic bullets, etc. The user can also convert their own magical energy and shoot it out through the gun, as a means of attack.
Strengths: Unlike Caster Magic, Guns Magic is a Holder Magic. As a result, the user does not have to get up close and personal with the target he is trying to hit. He can shoot from a distance. The bullets that are shot can only be switched, having different effects on the opponent, rather than just simple physical damage. Even if the user runs out of bullets, they can still convert their own magical energy into a beam, and shoot that out of the gun.
Weaknesses: As Guns Magic is a holder type of magic, the consequences would be dire, should the user lose his guns. If the user runs out of magical bullets, and is out of magical energy, they will be rendered practically useless. As the user is a Guns Magic user, a lot of emphasis is put on their accuracy and eyesight. If the opponent manages to compromise either of these things, it will make fighting very hard for the user.

V. HISTORY

History: On May 9th, X754, in an average family, in an average town in Fiore, an average child was born. His parents bestowed upon him the name 'Axel Maher'. Axel grew up in a nurturing environment, but unlike his fellow siblings, he was not outgoing or friendly. He did well in school, and was known as a very perceptive and cunning child, but also very aloof, and hard to befriend. This alarmed his parents, who kept a close eye on him. They even tried to get him to make more friends, by setting up several play dates, to no avail. Axel just wasn't the kind of guy with a huge social circle.

His parents eventually gave up on trying to change him, and decided to just accept him for who he was. Fast forward a few years, and Axel was now working at a relatively high paying job at a small firm in Fiore. He was 23 at the time, and like many other people his age, the next thing on his mind was starting a family. But like many other men, Axel made the mistake of choosing a girlfriend that valued material goods over family ties. Despite warnings from some close friends, Axel refused to cut ties with her, and within the year, they were happily married, with a child on the way. Tragedy struck however, when Axel lost his job. Instead of supporting him, like a loving wife should, his pregnant wife left him, returning to her home in a faraway town. Unfortunately, his ex-wife had a big mouth, and eventually the entire town now associated Axel Maher's name with terms such as 'Deadbeat Father' and 'Worthless Husband'.

Heartbroken, jobless and alone, Axel spent the next while job searching, to no avail. Running out of money to support even the most meager of lifestyles, he turned to his retired father, a former S-Rank mage, who specialized with Gun Magic. His father taught him the basics of Gun Magic, and even handed him his own two guns, which Axel named Lily and Sara. Originally, Axel's plan was to join a legal guild, but enticed by the money that being in a dark guild would bring, Axel ended up in an illegal guild, called ''Malice's Den.'' This particular dark guild were incredibly cruel to their clients, and most of the people who made requests had been blackmailed to do so. They were also pressured into giving incredibly extravagant rewards, for odd jobs. Despite the distastefulness of the job, Axel simply got on with it, and eventually was making a good bit of money. Malice's Den was a relatively small guild, and Axel rose up the ranks quickly, eventually becoming Malice's Den's Ace, despite being a largely inexperienced mage.

Malice's Den eventually caught the attention of stronger Dark Guilds, who were angry at them for trying to get in on their business. One day, Malice's Den's base of operations was attacked by a more powerful dark guild, called Demon's Run. The more powerful guild forced the Malice's Den members to join their guild, in order to increase their numbers. However, they decided to put all the Malice's Den members through a trial, to weed out the cowards. Axel was forced to fight against another member of the guild. He won the fight, impressing Demon's Run's members. However, he was told to kill his opponent after his victory. Axel refused. Unfortunately, the penalty for refusing the leader of Demon's Run was death. Axel was ousted, and attacked by both Demon's Run's members, and his former guildmates.

The battered Axel was brought to an abandoned warehouse by Demon's Run's guild master, Jakka, who planned to kill and leave Axel's body there. However, before Jakka could do the deed, the warehouse was raided by another mage. Seeing that something sinister was about to take place, the mage defeated Jakka, and brought him to justice. The mage that saved Axel decided not to turn him into the Magic Council, despite him being apart of a dark guild. Instead, the mage informed Axel that he was a member of a legal guild called Fairy Tail, and encouraged Axel to join. Despite having a desire to join Fairy Tail, Axel knew that his allegiance was with Lamia Scale, the guild that his father was apart of.

Axel headed to Lamia Scale, and became one of their D-Rank mages. His personality changed considerably from before, and he was now an even more aloof person, though he secretly craved for companionship. Axel had considered the members of Malice's Den to be his friends, so when they betrayed him, he was just as heartbroken as he was when his wife left him. Now, Axel simply works day to day jobs, in order to keep up his standard lifestyle, and hopes that one day, he can find out the reason why he was born, and finally find contentment with his life.
