Gilgamesh Godfist

Gilgamesh Godfist

   Gilgamesh the Godfist Esmexy
   __________________________________________________
   "What's a God to a nonbeliever?"

Name(s): Gilgamesh
Nickname(s): Gil (only by his guildmates/friends), God of War, Godfist
Age: 31 years old
Sex: Male
Birthday: 02/08/X749
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Class: Scavenger
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Rank: D
Guild: Fairy Tail
Guild Tattoo: Upper Right Pectoral
Face Claim: Dante - Devil May Cry

II. APPEARANCE

Height: 6'1"
Weight: 173 Ibs.
Hair: Silver-white, Groomed
Eyes: Ice Blue
General Appearance: While Gil isn't the most beefy guy in the world, he's by no means a shrimp either. His muscles are lean and defined, results of natural exercise regiments while under dark tutelage and on the path of power. He can usually be seen with a small fortune in jewelry; necklaces, rings, piercings etc. Anything that can help show off his affinity with material wealth, Gil wears. His fashion sense is a bit...out there, ranging from ol' western dusters to brightly colored suits and ties.
Extra: He has both ears pierced, two bars through his nose bridge(only noticeable by the circular ends on either side of the bridge), and his right eyebrow is pierced twice. On his back is an elaborate tattoo of a sword impaling a serpentine dragon.

III. PERSONALITY

Personality: Gil is all about having a good time. Boozin', druggin', fightin', or even just spending tons of dough on things that he'll probably lose interest in the next day; Gil does it all. He seems a superficial and materialistic pervert at first glance, hounding over this woman or that while showing off his jewelry and seductive charm. In fact, most of Fiore knows Gil as nothing but these things. Most people would crumble under such a bad reputation, but Gil loves the "extra spice" it adds to his life. In truth, Gil's just a bored kid stuck in the body of a grown man with the power to slay "gods". He does whatever he has to to keep his humor light and the atmosphere pleasant, almost to a selfish degree. While Gil is by no means a bad person, he has a hard time differentiating his wants from others'. This can lead to him doing things that seem morally acceptable in his eyes, while condemning him in others'.

He doesn't seem to mind, though. Gil hardly pays attention to people who can only view a person so rudimentary as that. For whatever reason, Gil's actions hide his naturally nurturing heart that only seeks for personal happiness within all others. No matter how lude or sleazy Gil can be, he'll never step on another person's dreams or desires. He hates anyone who would belittle such things and will stand up against such actions without a moment's hesitation. While he acts aloof and superior, Gil seems to appreciate all people's happiness and treats it as something sacred to protect. From life-long friends to new acquaintances, Gil treats all people he meets with the same fervor and love; despite it being mulled down by his less-than-appealing outer personality. Those who have touched Gil's heart knows that once you're friends with Gil, you've got a friend for life.
Likes:

  • Bee
  • Freedom
  • Food (especially sweets like pie & ice cream)
  • Material Wealth
  • Fighting
  • "Kickin' it"
  • Most Vices(not gambling as he has "horrid luck at it")
  • Animals
  • Metalworking
  • Studying

Dislikes:

  • Oppression
  • Killing
  • Bad Music
  • Bad Jokes
  • Dragon Slayers
  • Dark Guilds
  • All Vegetables
  • Long-winded Conversations

Motivations:

  • Family - Protecting his guild and the people who are close to his heart, most of all Bee.
  • Freedom - Personal or otherwise, Gil is above all else protects his freedom. He can't stand the thought of shackles and will break any, real or emotional, that try to clasp onto those he cares about.
  • Fun - Life is something short and fleeting for most people, which is why many adopt the ideal of "living life to the fullest". Now that Gil may be "cursed" with immortality as a result of his lost magic, he represses such thoughts by living his life the way he wants to; fast and fun, without a care in the world.

Fears:

  • Loss - Having already watched the life slip away from those he loved, Gil knows the crushing depression and sadness that comes with death. He has resolved that he won't let it happen again, so much so that the death of another loved one under his watch may psychologically cripple the man.
  • Chains - Maybe not the actual steel links that men make(seeing as he can make them and infinitely better too), but the thought of being restrained and held captive. Gil has broken free of too many chains to handle being clasped in their cold, metaphorical or otherwise, grasp.

Positive Traits:

  • Acrobatic (+3): You have excellent body awareness and coordination.
  • Alertness (+2): You have finely tuned senses.
  • Animal Affinity (+2): You are good with animals.
  • Blind-Fight (+4): You know how to fight in melee without being able to see your foes.
  • Blindsight (+4): Using senses such as acute hearing and sensitivity to vibrations, you detect the location of opponents who are no more than five feet away from you. Darkness and Invisibility are irrelevant, though you cannot detect non corporeal beings.
  • Diehard (+2): You can remain conscious after attacks that would fell others.
  • Enhanced Strength (+3): Your character is slightly stronger than other characters when it comes to physical strength.
  • Fortitude (+3): You are tougher than normal. You can take more hits than the regular Joe.
  • Swift (+3): You are fleet of foot. When running, you move three times your normal speed.

Negative Traits:

  • Allergies(Vegetables; Severe) (-1): You are afflicted with allergies. These may be something as simple as hay fever, but the reactions to such will result in something like a huge bout of sneezing and gasping. You must mention this allergy in your character application.
  • Ambitious (-1): You crave power. Money is nice, but being in charge of other people is your favorite thing. You are likely to be brought down by attempting a risky grab for power and failing. Even when deals are risky you will give in and agree most of times.
  • Arrogant (-1): You firmly believe that you are better than anyone else is. Your ideas are the best, your clothes are the most stylish, and you have to let everyone else know how much better you are. Once in a while you openly show contempt or disdain for someone else.
  • Branded (-2): You have fled for a crime committed and now have a prominent brand. You may have been a criminal, a slave, or some other such illicit individual. The brand is such that it cannot be easily covered, and a cursory search reveals it each time. Law enforcement agents of any lawful land will immediately take you into custody if they see the mark, for extradition or imprisonment. It is your choice as to whether or not you were falsely accused of the crime. Gil's extravagant back tattoo, while beautiful to look at, is also the telltale sign of his participation in the cult that had kidnapped him all those years ago.
  • Compulsive Honesty (-2): You cannot tell a lie, nor can you behave in a deceitful fashion. You tend to be blunt rather than tactful, even if it means insulting someone who you and your companions are trying to impress.
  • Curiosity (-1): You're a naturally curious person and you find mysteries of any sort irresistible. In most circumstances, alas, your curiosity overrides your common sense.
This forces you to investigate something unusual, even if it looks like it might be dangerous.
  • Daredevil (-2): You only really feel alive when you're staring death in the face. Your character is addicted to the thrill of death-defying stunts, pushing himsefl to the limit at every available opportunity.
  • Dark Secret (-1): You have some sort of secret that, if revealed, would make you an outcast amongst your society and companions. While this secret is on your mind at all times, it will come up in topics only once in a while, but when it does, watch out! Gilgamesh's Dark Secret is his connections with a cult that was heavily influenced by the Dark Lord Zeref.
  • Dependent (-3): You have a ward or charge that depends on you, usually a young child or elderly relative that needs you to provide for them and devote at least part of your time to them. In money terms, this will cost you five percent of your jewels a month. You may also be required to stay near home often in case you are needed. Gil's dependent is Bee, the small soft-spoken granddaughter of the slave woman that had kept his spirits up during his time with the cult.
  • Extravagant (-1): You enjoy living in the lap of luxury. Ale is never good enough if you can get fine wine instead. You aren't happy with anything less than the finest room in the inn. In addition, any equipment or services you purchase cost 10% more than the standard rate for the locale you are currently in. The best of the best always costs more, after all.
  • Greedy (-1): Money makes your eyes light up with joy. The more, the merrier, as long as it spends. Once in a while, whenever you're divvying up shares of the loot, being offered a hefty bribe, or catching wind of some fabulous treasure, the flaw can to convince you to grab for as much money as possible.
  • Hedonistic (-1): You love a good time. You party too much, drink too much, and eat too much. You have trouble resisting an invitation to join someone in a drink and sometimes shirk your duty if offered a more enjoyable time elsewhere. Whenever a good time is presented you let your guard. You're also not capable to resist seduction of any sort. It's just not in your nature to resist such opportunities.
  • Intolerance (Dragon Slayers)(-1): You have an irrational dislike of a certain thing. It may be an animal, a class of person, a situation, or just about anything at all. Note that some dislikes may be too trivial or ridiculous to count--a dislike of Bavarian-crème-filled donuts or mechanical pencils, for example, has no real dramatic value and will not be allowed.
  • Lazy (-1): You will never do any more work than is absolutely necessary. You will rely on your companions to do things such as build campfires, cook, and keep watch throughout the night. Generally, you will neglect details of preparedness in order to grab a few extra minutes of sleep. Failure indicates that you think the time would be better spent napping or laying under the shade.
  • Lecherous (-1): You have a lusty nature and a tendency to pursue the pleasures of the flesh. A woman or a man (however your tastes run) is an almost irresistible temptation to you. You give in to these temptations easily.
  • Merciful (-1): For a villain, you have a terrible weakness--you don't like to hurt people. Given the choice, you'd rather exile your deposed brother to another country than do him in. Whether this is because you want him to live knowing that you beat him, or whether you just have a small soft spot down in your heart somewhere, the result is the same: your enemies keep coming back again and again.
  • Overconfident (-1): Nothing is beyond your capabilities. If you wanted, you could defeat the best swordsman in the world; you just haven't had any reason to do so yet. And surely that chasm isn't too wide for you to leap across.
  • Overzealous (-1): You are incapable of having a weak opinion. Everything you believe, you believe as if your life depended on it. Everything you don't believe in, you hate with a passion.
Once in a while your flaw gets you to strongly defend one of your opinions, no matter how inappropriate the time and place, nor what the circumstances of such an outburst may be.
  • Reckless (-1): You lack the emotion of fear. Unfortunately, it is often an important cue that keeps men from doing foolhardy things. Sure, you don't flinch at the sight of even the most hideous monster, but neither do you feel the need to run away when outclassed.
  • Trusting (-2): You don't like to believe that other people are capable of misleading and lying to you. After all, people are basically good, right?

IV. MAGIC

Magic: Lost Magic - God Slayer: Iron Variant 滅神魔法: 鉄 バリアント
Caster or Holder: Caster
Description: An ancient and powerful Caster magic thought to be lost to the depths of time, those who use the power of God Slayer magic are able to reach levels of destructive elemental power that seem the stuff of legends and stories. Originally created for the sole purpose of slaying "gods", God Slayer magic is an almost exclusively combat magic style that relies on both magical aptitude and physical prowess from the wielder.
Strengths: Weaker magic of the same element serves as magical energy to be consumed, reducing the threat level of that element immensely. Being a forgotten combat magic meant to kill unfathomably strong opponents makes it hard to counter against except by experienced magi.
Weaknesses: God Slayer magic allows a mage to fight on a level never meant to be achieved by normal means, so it stands to reason that wielding such magic is severely draining on the mage both magically and physically. Only experienced magi with well-trained bodies and stamina can fight at their full strength without losing consciousness. Also, while wild and primal at its source, God Slayer magic is still technically an elemental magic; as such it naturally suffers the weakness of the element opposite its own. Seeing as Gilgamesh specializes in Iron as his element, his natural elemental weaknesses are Fire and Water.

V. HISTORY

History: Unlike the stories of Dragon Slayers and their adoptive parents or even most God Slayers and their "visit" from Zeref, Gilgamesh didn't obtain his ancient magic by "conventional" means.

He was born with it.

Zeref had left behind his fair share of trinkets for others to stumble upon and unleash upon the world even after he was a part of it. Some were demons waiting to be sprung, others were curses in the form of flawed but powerful magic. Many and more were discovered and...dealt with, in one way or another. But the most sought after, and most dangerous, of Zeref's remains was the secret to God Slaying magic. Allow me, if you will, to tell you a story...

---

Long ago, when the power of dragons were absolute and the beast were seen as Gods amongst the men of the world, there was talk of magic being taught to the humans. Magic that could slay dragons. What was even more inconceivable was that this so-called Dragon Slaying magic was being taught to them by dragons themselves. Over time this small talk became widespread truth and the birth of Dragon Slayers was born. The war between dragons and humans began again and the tides were turning to the humans' favor until their secret weapon backfired on them. Their precious Dragon Slayer magi became the very beasts they were supposed to kill, unable to mentally resist the strong primal psyche that is in tandem with their elemental magic. None moreso than the Dragon Slayer of Darkness, whose Dragon Form decimated dragons and humans alike. The forces scattered and there was chaos as to the fate of humanity.

Until whispers of another slaying magic began to travel the ears of the masses. A magic born of immense tragedy and magical aptitude; a dark mixture potent enough to produce a power capable of slaying "gods". Seeing as dragons were like "gods" in the eyes of men, a small flicker of hope came into the heart of humanity. Slowly but surely, as the wheel of time continued to spin, more and more magi capable of completely dominating in their respective elemental field began to pop up. Men and woman with dark pasts and curses from the Dark Lord himself who had come to temper their afflictions in exchange for the pure magical power of an element. Some were a threat and had to be "put down" while others became contributing members of the magical community. It wasn't until a few years later that the true capabilities of this magic was shown, however. A man shrouded in black appeared in Crocus, wielding the power to slay "gods" with darkness.

He proceeded to decimate the entire populace.

The death toll was in the thousands, sacred buildings were damaged beyond repair, and the capital of the kingdom was in a state of pandemonium. All because of the magic of a single person. It was almost immediately that the King put out an order for the heads of any who possessed "the power to slay a god". Every one of these magi were hunted down, even those who were nothing but good and just people. There was no mercy from the King after such an act was committed against the crown. The power of love and peace is a thing to behold after years of nurturing and growing, but the power of fear is sharp and fast like an explosion. It can rip apart the garden that is blossoming from such a peace without mercy or remorse, turning once gentle people to hard-hearted instruments of their own emotions. Even as the genocide waged, the fear of such an atrocious act happen again festered in the back of the king's mind. It wasn't enough, he decided, and ordered death to the families and loved ones of these God Slayers too.

---

Centuries later and not a soul of the public eye remembers these events. Crocus was rebuilt and king after king after ever-different king came and went to rule the kingdom. As the royalty over time pushed away their more "bloodied" history in the shadows, the later generations were born in ignorance and soon it seemed it never happened in the first place. But within the country of Fiore, some remembered. Those that descended from the families of the slain, the ones who somehow managed to escape the genocide and live as rats would in their own country until they were able to raise up a meager way of living in the aftermath. They lived and they seethed and they grew; becoming an alliance of vengeance and hatred from the shambled remains of broken families. Such strong emotions tied with darkness tend to influence the inherit magical energies within a person. Wouldn't it make sense then that the influence would grow as much magically as it would mentally as such a person breeds and passing on their views?

Now imagine generation after generation of this and the various events they witnessed and shaped with such hatred and magic. Eventually even Zeref himself couldn't ignore the potential behind such blossoming darkness. What sick fun it would be if the very thing this kingdom feared to happen again was brought about by the darkness sewn in the hearts and souls of these people, all of which was caused by the King trying to prevent such a thing. Zeref would never ignore such juicy irony and so he helped plant the "seed" of magic in the bloodline. Something to help inert cells from past generation genes remember the magical potency of this "power". Eventually, long after Zeref left this world, a baby was born with the qualifications to bring about the "power to slay Gods". No one knew at the time, not even the family; Zeref liked his gifts the best when they were surprises. Gil was born, ironically, into a family that was wronged generations ago for being related to those gifted with the power to slay gods from Zeref the Dark Lord.

Despite their seething hatred for the kingdom and their poor living conditions, Gilgamesh was a strangely happy child. He always seemed to find some reason to be happy, even when such a positive mood pissed off his parents and they beat him for it. They tried to make Gil understand that he had to learn to hate the kingdom and its citizens, anyone who wasn't them, because of what happened all those years ago, but Gil just couldn't grasp it. All that stuff had happened long before any of them were born, so why did they have to be mad about it? It was weak thinking, at least in his parents' eyes. They let it slide for the first few years but when they saw he wasn't changing his "weak" view, they kicked him out. Now a homeless teen with no real experience with the outside world, Gil proceeded to wander aimlessly amongst nature for a few years. He learned to live off the land and how to hunt from trial-and-error and watching the animals. This life wasn't meant to last, however. A large group of cultists swarmed the forest he happened to wander through one day and overwhelmed him, using strange magic to contain him and induce unconsciousness.

When he came to, he was shackled and chained to an oar. That was the first thing he noticed. The second thing he noticed was the immense pain that ripped across his back. A wet scream ripped from his lips as he felt the pain cut across his back again. He wildly looked back for just a moment, enough to see a grizzled man lift back his arm, and then the pain forced his head back in front as another scream was pushed from the guttural depths of his lungs. There were others, dressed in rags and rowing their oars in forward motion. A voice whispered to row, but when he turned to question it, another lash from the grizzled man's whip made him turn forth again. What was happening? Everything was happening so fast and he couldn't make sense of things. Again, a voice said to row, and that time Gil decided to blindly listen. He rowed the oar that appeared out of nowhere and that would eventually become the next fifteen years of his life.

Fifteen years. It's long enough to drive most sane men insane; people who've lead perfectly normal lives. Gil wasn't most men; he had lead a pretty confusing and psychologically damaging life. So being randomly forced into slavery for fifteen years in servitude to cultists wasn't something ideal for him to go through. Yet somehow he managed, mostly because of an adorable old slave who seemed to whip him into shape more than the cultists and her mute granddaughter that they called Bee. They were the right amount of crazy and good-natured to keep him from being completely crushed by the darkness of his life. Until the day the cultists were done building and the slaves were done rowing. The structure looked like a sort of doorframe without a door, standing atop the platform where they had rowed those chain oars for fifteen years. Knives suddenly flashed out and plunged into the chests and bellies of slaves everywhere as the lead cultist explained that they had churned a powerful cluster of lacrima, constrantly generating and spreading out its magic with their tireless rowing.

Gil watched as slaves all around them died, their blood sacrifice the final key to unlocking this portal of time. Someone shouted why and the lead cultist seemed to drink in the word as if waiting to hear that one question all day. And then he revealed it; the reason why Gil and all the other people had been kidnapped and forced to row oars for the remainder of their lives. They were seeking to bring back one of the fabled Dragon Slayers that turned the tides of the war between dragons and humans and became something...else. It...was madness. Pure and utter madness. Why would anyone bring that kind of destruction into the world? A scream ripped his eyes from the leader towards his right, where he saw one of the cultists ripping Bee from the arms of her grandmother. Turning back to the lead cultist, he felt some sort of strange feeling growing inside of him. Was this...anger? No, deeper than that. This was hatred. A feeling that was rooted to who he was, that festered deeper than any emotion, down to his very blood.

The lead cultist could sense some magical power in Gil but not enough to be worried. After all, what were these slaves in comparison to one as great as him? Someone who was going to bring back and control one of the greatest threats to existence? He was a god in comparison; completely untouchable. Gil could read it all on his face; his hatred was but a speck in the eyes of that arrogant bastard.  What's a slave to a god, huh? Another scream caught his attention, but this one was new. It was a little girl's; one he had never heard before. He turned to see that it was Bee who was screaming, but she had never screamed. Even when he accidentally kicked her in the shin, or when she fell down that ravine that one time... A cultist had stabbed ol' granny slave. Too rowdy for the man's taste, Gil assumed. It was weird, the feeling of going from furious to completely calm. He just stood there as death washed in from all sides like a tsunami threatening to swallow him in its bloody clutches. Then something snapped inside of him as he saw the same knife rip out of granny's chest and go for Bee. A suddenly overwhelming sense of panic and fear washed over him as he realized he was about to be alone, truly alone, before death.

What's a slave to a god, huh?

That something spark his magical energy reserve like a hammer to a slate of steel right out of the furnace. Obsidian-hued metal burst out of his body and covered him in thick plate as he reached his arm out between Bee and the knife. His eyes watched the blade connect with his new black coating and bend until the point of breaking, but his arm felt none of the impact. The cultist's eyes widened but Gil wanted to do more, this new power demanded retribution for the travesty happening all around them at the hands of these cultists. His arm kept going with the momentum of his lung, fingers curling into fists even as the black metal plating swam across his knuckles and locked into place like a sturdy glove of justice. The fist collided with the man's face and sent him clean into the platform that had been Gil's life for fifteen years. The lead cultist's face contorted with rage and pointed a jeweled sword at Gil. Oh, Gil loves this part; it's the one that sticks out in his memory the most. The lead cultist yelled out in a frothing rage, "What's a slave to a god!? How dare you stand up to your betters! Stay your hand and serve your meager purpose, slave!"

Gil stood there, covered head to toe in some black metal armor conjured by magic that he didn't know he possessed with every blade and ill-intention of these cultists who had enslaved him and pushed him to work for their goals pointed at him. For some reason, Gil remembered that being the happiest moment of his life. Standing there, amongst all these unknown factors and odds, between Bee and the world as he knew it. She would've lived the same tragic life that he did, perhaps even worst because this was all she's ever known. He had known happiness and the loss of that was immeasurable, but to have never known happiness at all? Would Gil have been able to survive and endure what he had to endure if he didn't have the returning of that amazing feeling as a goal? Protecting her from such a fate, that was what he was instinctively doing. In doing so, it seems, he had also obtained what he had missed so terribly all these years; happiness. Gil remembers that was also the first time he used Iron God's Swordplay.

A sword used to protect something precious is stronger than anything, even gods.
