Naga

Name: Barque Island

Size: 46 square kilometers

Population: 5,000 people

Governance: Barque is not governed by any ruler. Simply because one can not rule whatever lives (and doesn't live) on Barque. Each small settlement has a head who governs it.

Culture: Barque's citizens were devoted members of the religion of the five. Nowadays only a few still believe and have faith.

Economy: Barque is an autarky. They only produce to satisfy their own needs and do not trade with other islands. This is mainly because no one wishes to come to Barque.

Description: Barque was once known as the capital of faith. People from all over Fiore would come here to see the grand cathedral that was built here and pray. The amount of visitors that were drawn here created a good commerce and thus kept Barque rather wealthy to spend more on their beautiful architecture. Throughout the city you could see statues of angels guarding each corner. Everyone was happy cause people lived in peace. The island itself was governed by the nobles and the pontifex who was in charge of the cathedral.

The pontifex however developed an interest for the cathedral's history. Barque's cathedral was not simply a place of holiness because of the building but because it managed to seal one of the greatest evils underneath it. As his interest increased the forces of evil underneath the cathedral could start to whisper things in his mind. Promises of immense power and magic led the pontifex into opening the seal. No longer held back by binding magic, the supernatural horrors underneath Barque were now free to prey on humanity.

The once-holy cathedral became a place of dark cults and rituals. The pontifex rallied the townsfolk into stopping the evil coming from the cathedral's dungeon; only to lure them into a confrontation with the demons, who slew many that night, and left very few survivors. Many heroes became attracted to Barque, whether it be for the rumoured riches within the cathedral or a chance to test their mettle against the monsters that plagued the island, however none returned.

Because of the renewed danger, traditions have begun to change throughout Barque. Shopkeepers close their doors at nightfall. Travelers avoid the grave-riddled lowlands and the mist-laden woods. Priests, hunters, and the knights guarding the settlements carry silver with them at all times. Mages visit the island from time to time for personal reasons. May it to be visit the dungeon or to seek the interesting people who live on the island.

Surroundings: Only sea.
